14 Awesome Halal Places That’ll Prove SG’s West Is Best

The west side of the beautiful country of Singapore is just filled with amazing sights and many tourist attractions such as the Jurong Bird Park and Chinese Garden. It is also where you can find delicious and affordable halal food – home to a plethora of different cuisines including Japanese and Thai food 😮

Now, who says you can only find yummy halal food in the east? The west side has its fair share of delectable delights too! So, get your drool buckets ready as we take you to the west side of Singapore for this list of 12 awesome halal places in Singapore’s west (in no particular order!).

1. 786 Char Kway Teow (Bukit Merah View Hawker Centre)

We kick this list off with a hidden gem located a short drive from Singapore’s business district. 786 Char Kway Teow is owned by a friendly Chinese-Muslim, who puts his passion for cooking into every plate of his yummy Char Kway Teow (From SGD 3) 🤗.

Note that queues can get remarkably long during peak hours, but it is worth the wait as a plate of this delicious Char Kway Teow, will make you come back for seconds. You can fully customise your plate of Char Kway Teow by asking for additional cockles or by making it spicier.

2. Sinar Harapan Chinese Muslim Food (Jurong West 505 Food Centre)

A Jurong resident would probably tell you that Sinar Harapan Chinese Muslim Food serves arguably the best halal roasted chicken rice in Jurong. This is evident during peak hours when the queue gets extremely long, at times even stretching out of the hawker centre.

The flavour of Sinar Harapan’s chicken rice is so rich, you won’t stop till you get enough 😋. The chilli is the star of the show as it really compliments well with the succulent chicken and the fragrant rice. Did we mention you can get a plate at an affordable price of SGD 3.50? Complete the meal with hot, fried wonton served with a side of sweet soy sauce (SGD 4).

3. Isuramuya (JCube)

Finding halal-certified Japanese restaurants in Singapore may be a bit of challenge especially if you live in the west. But don’t worry westies, one of the rare halal Japanese spots in the west lies on the fourth floor of JCube 😆

The restaurant offers a great view of JCube’s ice-skating rink. If you are lucky, you may even get to catch an ice hockey match while you dine in.

Isuramuya offers a variety of Japanese dishes including curry rice, ramen, sashimi and sushi. Their signature Tori Katsu Curry Rice (SGD 10.50) includes a serving of white rice and hot, crispy chicken cutlets being drowned in piping hot curry 🤤.

Isuramuya also offers a wide variety of sushi and sashimi. Order their Sashimi Moriawase (Assorted Sashimi platter) (SGD 30) for a taste of every sashimi they have to offer, including Uni (Sea Urchin).

4. The White Kitchen by Tokyo Latte (JCube)

Previously known as Noodle Bar by Tokyo Latte, this sleek-looking café lies amongst the “fashion district” of JCube. The café is furnished with wooden table tops and bar stools, giving it a touch of simplicity and a homely feel 🤗.

The White Kitchen specialises in Western-Japanese fusion and serves up a great variety of quality dishes at reasonable prices. Their Grilled Beef with Salmon Roe Don is their specialty (SGD 12.50) and the restaurant shows how they partner seafood and meat perfectly together through their Grilled Prawns and Sirloin Steak (SGD 18.50).

5. Chickata (Jurong East)

To all the Thai barbecue-steamboat lovers, this one’s for you! Located at the void deck of a residential estate in Jurong East, Chickata lets you enjoy their delicious barbecue-steamboat set (From SGD 28 for 2 pax) with time limit of 90 minutes.

Just grab what you want from a huge variety of ingredients and start cooking. Did we mention, at an additional charge of SGD 5, you can get a bowl of cheese dip, which you can enjoy with your meal 😊.

6. Brio (Jurong Point)

Conveniently located in the heartlands, Brio is a hipster café, which serves up quality, delicious European street food. It is located on the 2nd floor of Jurong Point, a megamall located just next to Boon Lay MRT station along the East-West Line.

Their extensive menu includes a mix of cuisines from all over Europe with a little Asian twist. Here for a filling, yummy meal? Try out their Salted Egg Fish & Chips (SGD 14.50) or their Beef Ragu Tagliatelle (SGD 16.80) 🤤.

7. Deanna’s Kitchen (Jurong East)

Another deserving entry on this list is Deanna’s Kitchen. Following their success of their first outlet in Toa Payoh, the owners decided to open a second outlet. Deanna’s Kitchen serves up delicious, refreshing prawn noodles, which sells out fast everyday (From SGD 7). You have the option to choose your size of prawns, ranging from small shrimps to giant prawns. The pièce de résistance of each bowl of prawn noodles is their robust, flavourful broth 😋.

Their signature special is their seafood platter (SGD 39), which includes prawns (big and small), clams, crayfishes and a lobster, all cooked in a huge bowl of the same yummy broth.

8. West Co’z Café (West Coast Plaza)

Be spoilt for choice at this local Zi Char (home-cooked meals) restaurant located in West Coast Plaza. Getting here however, wouldn’t be as easy as there are no MRT stations nearby. The best option to get here is by taking bus service 201 from Clementi MRT Station, which lies along the East-West Line.

The conveniently named West Co’z Café serves up a variety of dishes ranging from local curry dishes to stir-fried vegetables, all of which go well with a plate of hot, fragrant rice. Their signature (and a must try) is their Curry Fish Head (SGD 20). The fish is really meaty and the curry is perfectly seasoned and gives the right amount of spicy kick 😬.

West Co’z Café also serves local classics such as Har Cheong Gai (From SGD 10). Also known as prawn paste chicken, these hot and crispy fried chicken wings (and drums) are fried with prawn paste to give it its unique, delectable taste.

9. Time for Thai (Bukit Timah)

Craving for some authentic Thai food? Then, look no further than Time for Thai, located along Cheong Chin Nam Road opposite Beauty World Centre. The stretch includes many Halal-certified restaurants and it is a popular hangout spot for students studying in nearby institutions.

Their Tom Yum Soup (from SGD 9.90) is refreshing and a must-try 😄. However, it is their signature Khao Soi (SGD 7.90), crispy egg noodles served with curry-infused meat, that takes the cake.

10. Big Bern’s American Grill (Timbre+)

This American-style “food truck” can be found amongst the jungle of cafés at Timbre+, a modern, hipster hawker centre complete with live entertainment and delicious food.

Big Bern’s American Grill was set up by the same owner who brought you Botak Jones (or its halal counterpart, Botak’s Favourites). Their signature Cajun chicken (From SGD 9.50) and Cheesesteak Po’Boy (From SGD 14) are to die for and don’t forget to complete your meal with their awesome seasoned fries 🤤.

Watching what you eat? Fret not, we’ve got just the right halal spot for you 😊. Located in a prime location and frequented by adults working in the Buona Vista and one-north district on weekdays, Lean Bento serves up delicious, healthy halal-certified meals.

Their Salmon (SGD 14.90) and Chicken (SGD 12.90) bento sets, served with a side of scrambled eggs, mixed veggies and brown rice, are satisfyingly good and filling enough to keep you going for the day 😋.

12. Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles (Tiong Bahru Plaza)

Located just a 10-minute drive from Singapore’s business district, Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles kicked off their business in 2019 announcing, to the excitement of many, that they are halal-certified.

You can choose your own style of noodles (ranging in sizes) served in a bowl of either non-spicy broth (From SGD 8.90) or spicy mala broth (From SGD 9.50). If you are not a fan of soupy noodles, the restaurant also offers dry versions of their beef noodles (From SGD 8.90) 🤗.

13. Jalapeño South-West (321 Clementi)

Mexican food-lovers, rejoice! Jalapeño South-West, which recently opened in 321 Clementi, is here to fulfil all your taco, quesadilla and fajita needs 😋

Get your hands on popular dish Beef Quesadillas ($9.90). Think crispy warm tortillas with marinated meat, sauteed onions and pickled jalapenos, held together with melted jack cheese, served alongside sour cream, salsa and Mexican rice 🤤

Don’t forget to also try the JSW Burger (from $8.90). With handmade meat patties,  onion rings, cheese and their special “Jalapeno South West” sauce, this burger with a Mexican twist will be sure to please.

14. HanSsik Korean Grill Barbecue Restaurant (Clementi Mall)

HanSsik Korean Grill Barbecue Restaurant is another eatery to recently come on the halal food scene in the West when it was awarded its halal-certification last month.

This Korean barbecue eatery which is run by Ministry Of Food was previously part of the chain of DaeSsikSin Korean barbecue outlets that are available throughout Singapore. However, the outlet at Clementi Mall has been rebranded to HanSsik following its halal-certification (to note, only the Clementi Mall outlet is halal-certified, while the remaining outlets are not halal-certified and are still called DaeSsikSin).

Enjoy the all-you-can-eat buffet (priced between $15.90 – 25.90++ for adults and between $9.90 – 15.90++ for children), including 10 to 12 different types of signature marinated meats (including beef bulgogi, marinated chicken, and spicy octopus!), creamy cheese dip and heart collagen hotpot 🤤 You’ll also have access to free-flow banchan(side-dishes) and drinks!
