For the uninitiated, the term, “ma la” literally translates to “numbing spice” and it actually refers to an oily and spicy sauce which originated from Sichuan province in China. It consists of Sichuan peppercorns, chilli peppers and various other spices. This lethal combination causes a numbing feeling on your taste buds but that’s what makes it unique!

Mala Mala serves the stir-fried version of mala called “Mala Xiang Guo” and how it works is that you’ll choose your preferred ingredients from a range of more than 60 items (buffet-style). There’s an extensive variety of items, from meat to seafood, soy products, vegetables and noodles or rice. Then, the staff will weigh it and it’ll be charged according to the price category of the items. It costs RM3.99/100g for vegetables and RM5.99/100g for meat.

Now here comes the best part – there are 4 different spice levels and you can state your preference too! If you can’t take spice but want some of that numbing feeling, then get ‘Rempah Je’ (only spices) or ‘Pedas Sikit’ (a little bit spicy). But if you think you can handle the heat, then get ‘Pedas Sangat’ (really spicy) or ‘Pedas Gila’ (crazy spicy)! We hear the ‘Pedas Gila’ is not for the faint-hearted, so time to challenge your friends to a spice-off
