Friends know how much I love sushi – so much so that I was willing to travel from the West to the East (45 minutes travel time, mind you) just so I could get some sushi. But you don’t have to go through such lengths to get sushi – not with HHWT’s sushi guide, that is! This is the ultimate guide for all you sushi fans out there🤗

1. Isuramuya

The latest addition to the halal sushi scene in Singapore – Isuramuya😎 This restaurant attained its halal certification a mere 2 weeks ago so you can be rest assured that you will be one of the first to try the food at this restaurant. Treat yourself to a delectable range of sushi and feel yourself being temporarily transported to the land of the rising sun!

With ingredients flown in directly from Japan, Isuramuya allows you to savour the true taste of Japanese cuisine and sushi – guaranteed to be fresh! I mean, look at that salmon😍

If you’re inspired by the sushi served and want to try making your own, you can hop over to the marketplace located at this very restaurant. It’s the first Japanese restaurant in Singapore with an on-premise marketplace😮

2. Hei Sushi

If you, like me, have always walked past sushi restaurants and wished that there was a halal one where the sushi is served on a conveyor belt, you have to head down to Hei Sushi! It’s Singapore’s first halal kaiten sushi restaurant and as the name suggests, the sushi travels on a conveyor belt. You can conveniently reach out and take any sushi which appeals to you! Check the colour of each plate for the price of the sushi☺️

#HHWT tip: If you don’t see what you want on the conveyor belt, just order your dish using the iPad at your table!

Must-try dishes include the Aburi sushi and the Shake Tobimayo – seared salmon topped with tobimayo sauce (flying fish roe sauce & mayonnaise). The salmon was seared to the right degree and the sauce complemented the dish perfectly. Yummy!

Apart from these dishes, you cannot miss Hei Sushi’s specialty makimono. It’s one of those comfort dishes that really hits the spot😌 With artistic creations such as the Spider Maki (soft shell crab and lettuce wrapped in obba leaf) and Sunshine Maki (breaded prawn sushi layered with mango), you’ll definitely be back for more!

Hei Shake (breaded prawn sushi rice roll layered with salmon slices, flying fish roe and cheese sauce)

Address: They have a few outlets across Singapore
Opening Hours: Differs by outlet

3. Maki-San

Maki-your-own-sushi right here at Maki-san😛 This is my personal go-to sushi place considering how fussy I am about my food, so much so that I want it personalized right down to the very detail😂 A huge plus point is that the sushi here is at an affordable price!

#HHWT Tip: Present your student card on weekdays to enjoy a 10% discount! Alternatively, if you’re a SAFRA card member, you can enjoy 15% off your total bill.

Start by choosing which wrap you’d like your maki in – traditional nori (seaweed), crepe (egg wrap) or healthy soy wrap. You can also choose brown rice instead of Japanese white rice, if you prefer the healthier option. Then, take your pick of ingredients, sprinkles and sauces to complete your maki! I really was not kidding when I said your maki is personalized right down to the very detail😌

If you’d like to take your maki a notch higher, opt to fry your sushi at a small additional price! But you can only opt for this if you chose the traditional nori wrap.

4. Santaro by Gion

If this restaurant’s name rings a bell, it might mean that you visited Santaro By Gion before at its old location. Many were left in the lurch when it closed down at Royal Plaza on Scotts but Santaro made a grand return at its new location – Amara Hotel! Helmed by renowned award-winning chef Santaro Li (explains the name😉) who served reputable people such as the late Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, this is one restaurant which will not disappoint!

Here, the food is not the only thing that will remind you of Japan. Enjoy an authentic Japanese meal experience by booking one of Santaro’s exclusive tatami rooms🤗

5. The Ramen Stall

Offering authentic Japanese food altered to suit the local palette, The Ramen Stall is a halal Japanese restaurant tucked away in North Bridge Road. The restaurant’s name is enough to give away it’s specialty dish but that’s not all it’s known for! There is an amazing range of sushi for you to choose from at this restaurant😄

Apart from commonly found sushi such as the California Roll, indulge yourselves in torched salmon sushi and torched beef sushi – dishes unique to this restaurant. The torched beef is a perfect complement to the sushi rice😋

This is the only halal sushi in Singapore which does not have a physical store. But do not underestimate the taste of Inari-ku, especially since the humble home kitchen is helmed by a stay-at-home mother who graduated from the Tokyo Sushi Academy! She was also guided by other experienced Japanese chefs and culinary talents during her time in Japan so you’re guaranteed top-notch quality sushi here☺️

Ah, Singapore’s first halal Japanese restaurant chain! Ramen Ten is not only established in Singapore, but is also a familiar name in other countries such as Malaysia, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Its global expansion is, in itself, evidence of its prowess in the international halal sushi scene.

The chain created its own halal sushi concept, Shin Tokyo Sushi, where sushi is served on conveyor belts and this has quickly grown into Ramen Ten’s niche areas!

The sushi here is sold at 50 cents per piece😮 Rows and rows of sushi will greet you as you enter this shop but do note that the sushi is only for you to take-away as there are no seats in the shop.

Apart from the normal sushi, Junshin also sells fruit sushi! Uh, fruits? 😑 I mean, some people might like fruits that much to have it as a sushi😆
